German championships 2016 and 2017 in Frankfurt

The German championships will be held in Frankfurt in 2016 and the following year as well.

„It’s always nice if you can integrate championships into a mass event like Germany’s oldest city marathon“, says Race Director Jo Schindler. „This is a good opportunity for the German Athletics Association“. The German championships have already seen a surge in popularity when they were held last year in Frankfurt, drawing 1018 participants.

This is due to couple of reasons. First of all, the four hour long live broadcast by hr television as well as an elobarate summary on national tv. And of course because of the outstanding performances of German athletes. After years with the best German athletes barely competing Lisa Hahner and Arne Gabius were to worthy champions.

„We are very happy that Frankfurt has been chosen as host of the German championships for two more years“, says Frank Lebert, General Manager of DLM, the marketing branch of the German Athletics Association. „Jo Schindler and his team have done great work. The continueed cooperation with the Athletics Association and the DLM means a top event for all athletes in the future.“

Which German top athletes will start in Frankfurt has not been determined, especially considering that probably six German runners will compete in the Olympic Marathon in Rio in August.

„We will do everything to bring top national and international athletes to Frankfurt“, says Race Director Jo Schindler. But of course how things play out in Rio and recovery times will play a role.
