The Mainova Frankfurt Marathon continued its successful format of expert talks over the running classic am Main. With his entertaining speech, the German 10 kilometer record holder Carsten Eich talked about the preparation for the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon on the 29th of October.
At the Frankfurt corporate headquarters from Mainova, spoke the former professional about trainings plans, controlling, equipment, metabolism, regeneration and of course about the 42,195 run itself. Eich also took us back and talked about his everyday life as a former running professional and gave tips and tricks for the ambitious amateur runners out there.
The guests in corporate headquarters from Mainova, along with the other 6500 marathon interested, followed the live feed on Facebook, and learned that regeneration is the “key to top performance”. That “no runner in the world can complete the marathon distance with only a carbohydrate metabolism”. And that a sleepless night before the big day is also no reason to worry.
Eich suggests the runners, “to break out of the normal 1 x1 training.” Most of the people training for a marathon, prepare by running to fast, “slower makes you faster”, says Eich. Whoever takes a step back and before the 12-week preparations time and trains their basic endurance 8 to 10 weeks beforehand, will be quicker on the marathon day. A good foundation must be built including activating your metabolism – and on the 29th of October in the Frankfurt Festival Hall to reach a better result. Furthermore, Eich suggests by a longer training run of 30 kilometers, not to run more than 3 hours and to run a maximum of 5 of these runs in the trainings phase. “We don’t want to have do the marathon during our training”, says the man from Leipzig.
In the audience, were numerous athletes who will participate for their first time in a Marathon. Eich gave them tips on how to handle the nervousness, when to wake up on the big day (3 hours for the start), how not do stress yourself with breakfast on the big day (no experimenting) and that the, “Man with the hammer”, doesn’t offer an easy goal.
Whomever adequately uses all of the aid stations and absorbs the great atmosphere of the Frankfurt Street Festival, has already won. And it is very important, says Eich, “While crossing the finishing line in the Frankfurt Festival Hall after 42,195 to smile, these make the best souvenir photos.
