The Jubilee Edition As Popular As Ever

More than 15300 marathon runners registered / Breakfast Run with Arne Gabius and Irina Mikitenko

At its anniversary the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon is having a great year. As of the writing of this newsletter already 153000 marathon runners have signed up for the 35th edition of Germany’s oldest city marathon on October 30th. So far this is the second best result in out history. It’s still possible that we will achieve a new record in 2016.

„Runners are voting with their feet. We achieved to offer a very attractive fall marathon to the running family. This popularity motivates us even more to make this event memorable for everyone“, said Race Director Jo Schindler.

The current record was achieved in 2012 with 16.034 participants. This year the limit of registrations for the marathon will be at 16.250 runners, so there are only a few hundred race numbers left. The relay marathon booms as well in Frankfurt. We already count over 1900 relay teams with only a few dozen registrations being up for grabs. All in all we count with up to 26.000 participants this year.

Arne Gabius won’t be able to run the marathon because of an injury but he will be here where last year he celebrated the largest success of his career. Arne, who broke the German marathon record in 2:08:33 hours, will take part in the Breakfast Run powered by InterAir on Saturday (10am) instead.

The easy jog over 5k – also called the Pretzel Run – is the traditional opening ceremony of the race weekend in Frankfurt which everyone can attend for free. Fresh pretzels and apple juice is served in the finish zone. Next to Arne Gabius we welcome another record runner on Saturday morning. Irina Mikitenko (2:19:19 hours in 2008) will enjoy the easy-going atmosphere of the Breakfast Run as well.
