After receiving the award “Green Marathon” for the worlds greens marathon, from the Association of International Marathon and Distances Races (AIMS), the association of international street runs organizer, once again applied in 2017 the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon for this award. The application with the extensive environmental protection and sustainability measures, was submitted in Athens, the seat of AIMS, in July.
Frankfurt offers a total of 140,000 liters of high quality mineral water at all the aid stations and other sports drinks from Rosbacher, there won’t be any plastic cups or any water from the hydrants being used. By the aid stations bio-quality will be taken deeply into consideration. For the participants, there will be 5 tons of bio-bananas and 1 ton of bio-apples from Querbeet from the region. Every portion of noodles with sauce from the Fattoria La Vialla by the Toscana Pasta Party on the marathon day use 430 grams less C02 as a comparable product by the convention production process. By the huge sporting event, the use of public transportation is wished and promoted, this is to reduce waste and is a part of the waste management topic. The environmental forum for the Rhein-Main area, whoich is also a member of the city of Frankfurt, supports and accompanied the Green Marathon, right from the get go. A total sum of 200,000 Euros have already been invested and around 20,000 Euros are to be calculated yearly, to maintain the Marathon from year to year.
